Country Stars Honor Stoneman Douglas Victims At Rib Round Up

It was a day of ribs, music, and fun at the 2018 Rib Round Up Saturday, but the students from Stoneman Douglas high school were not forgotten.

Country music star and Florida native Jake Owen expressed his sentiment for the survivors of the school massacre in an interview with WPTV. Owen, who was performing at a music festival in Las Vegas when a gunman opened fire on the large crowd of festival goers from a hotel room, explained he understands what the survivors are going through at this moment and wanted to be there to support them.

“As someone that has dealt with something like that I’m happy to be here and show my support because that’s what you need at times like this,” Owen said.

Our sister station 103.1 WIRK also honored the victims of Stoneman Douglas in several ways.

In addition to holding a moment of silence for during the show, our sister station and host of the event 103.1 WIRK will be sending a cowboy hat that was signed by all of the artist performing at Rib Round Up to the school, and a banner signed by artist and concert-goers.
