Deputies to be Put in All St. Lucie County Schools

The St. Lucie County Sheriffs Office says it will be placing armed deputies in all 38 school in St. Lucie County. The announcement was made Tuesday morning at  Floresta Elementary by St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara.

Mascara says that each deputy will be trained to carry rifles on campus, however, they will not open carry on campus.

According to the sheriffs department,  they have reorganized some of its other departments to allow for the funding of deputies at schools in the district. If they also receive funding from the state, they will increase the number of deputies on campus.

The restructuring comes after 17 people where killed when a gunman opened fire on Stoneman Douglas high school on February 14th.
